The first time I discovered the term "graphic design" was while I was reading high school course descriptions. It was one of those "ah ha!" moments, the descriptions really resonated with me. It was the first time I found a way to bring together my varied, and I believed arbitrary, interests. It connected math and art, information organization and photography, and I could apply it  to any subject. In design I could connect all of my  interests with my talents and present them in an effective manor.

I now see coming to graphic design as a natural evolution from childhood; taking photos, laying out scrapbooks, organizing information in my notebooks, doing calligraphy, reading, and doing arts & crafts as a child. Today it gives me the tools to effectively organize and share my interests in travel, hiking, reading and writing, technology, yoga, and so much more.
